Public organizations
Responsible management with knowledge and certainty
NGOs contribute to society in all kinds of ways, but proper management brings with it complex problems and major responsibilities. Tax obligations and reporting requirements are often underestimated, while errors can have significant consequences and even lead to directors’ and officers’ liability. A good understanding of laws and regulations as well as financial processes is crucial for managing risks and doing business with confidence.
Financial statements prepared according to prevailing rules give a clear insight into the organization’s financial position. They take account of such matters as fundraising, organization size and any business activities, and provide a strong basis for accountability towards external parties. At the same time, tax and legal aspects, such as VAT on certain services relating to fundraising, relevant exemptions and compliance with the Recognition Scheme for Good Causes (Erkenningsregeling Goede Doelen) – the ‘Licence to Operate’ for many fundraising organizations – can have a significant influence on protecting the organization and making the most of opportunities.
PBO status
The status as a PBO (public benefit organization) offers tax benefits, but imposes strict requirements on management and administration. The organization’s articles, publication obligation and internal processes must be fully aligned with the prevailing rules to ensure transparency and trust among donors, members and regulators. Volunteers often form the heart of the organization, and clear
agreements on remuneration, contracts and liability ensure that the organization remains compliant while maintaining its support.
Combining these elements creates a strong foundation for continuity and public impact. An association or foundation can then grow and professionalize without losing oversight or control. That is precisely what we stand for: looking ahead, going further.
